Fire Prevention Week

October 11th, 2024

This week is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s message from the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work For You!”

When working smoke alarms are present in your home, the risk of dying in a home fire is cut by 60 percent, according to the latest NFPA research.

Please take a moment to review these tips regarding smoke alarms:

  1. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home.
  2. The NFPA recommends testing smoke alarms once a month, especially older models with replaceable batteries.
  3. Replace all smoke alarms when they are either 10 years old or stop responding when tested.
