Outdoor Burning

Outdoor Burning in the Nederland area is done at considerable risk to your neighbors and community.  The Town of Nederland has the distinction of having burned down twice, the last time in ~1906. One of the historical fires was ~1,600 acres, a square mile is 640 acres for scale.  Many new residents come from areas where the presence of outdoor fires did not present nearly the amount of risk that it does here. Due to variable winds, various drought patterns, topography etc...you nearly need to be a fire scientist to pick the correct days for safe outdoor burning. Due to these risks Boulder County has implemented significant regulations as well as civil and criminal charges if these regulations are not followed.

Please do not call the fire department and tell use "we are just going to burn a few piles", without following the Boulder County requirements.
